How to have the happiest year of your life in 2022

We believed we were waving a long-awaited goodbye to the awful news this time last year. A new year awaited them in 2021, with the promise of a Covid vaccination and (hopefully) a return to normalcy.

We were completely mistaken. For many of us, 2021 was a more difficult year than 2020. As we approach the end of the year, Omicron is on the rise across the country, the NHS is on its knees (again), we’re back working from home, and burnout is at an all-time high. Is it really worth it to allow ourselves to dream and establish goals for 2022?

Absolutely. In fact, this is a better time than ever to do it. We’re probably going to be living with Covid for a bit longer, but there’s a lot we can do in the next 12 months to make our dreams come true and bring more joy into our lives, even if it’s as simple as keeping a diary or spending more time by the sea. The little things add up.

Here’s how you look forward to what lies ahead in the new year, from thinking on the positives to making the next 12 months all about feelings. Project 2021 is now underway.

2021 Reflection

Even though 2021 was a difficult year, it’s still critical to reflect on everything that happened: the best moments, the worst times, the pleasure you had, and the obstacles you faced.

We can’t give ourselves the opportunity to comprehend and celebrate our accomplishments unless we acknowledge what we’ve been through. It’s also an essential opportunity to acknowledge that even in difficult years, we continue to learn, grow, laugh, and love.

Fill 2022 calendar with Happiness and Joy

Making the effort to fill our life with things that make us happy can be easy when we feel like we’re in survival mode. Instead, we get bogged down in “just getting through it all,” which can lead to exhaustion and even burnout over time.

What’s the answer? You can start investing in your happiness in 2022 by scheduling the things that bring you joy and happiness into your schedule.

Make a list of everything that makes you happy and content, even if you haven’t done it in years. Schedule at least one thing from your list each week in the form of a stroll or reading chapter from a favorite book, whatever it is that you enjoy doing.

You’ll notice a change if you stick to your “happy dates” like you would a doctor’s appointment.

Everything that we seek is based on our desire to feel a specific way. Consequently, in 2022, ask yourself: How do I want to feel? A list of the items that make it possible to feel this way on a daily basis should be drawn out afterward.

You may want to spend more time in nature, listen to soothing music, take a candlelit bath, or listen to a guided meditation in 2022 if you want to feel more serene.

Now that you’ve made a list, make a commitment to incorporating those items into your schedule. Rather than listening to the news in the morning, try listening to relaxing music or scheduling a candlelight bath on Tuesday. You could go for a walk at your neighborhood park at least once a week.

There’s no telling how important these seemingly insignificant details will be when it comes to achieving the feelings you desire in the year 2022.

Focus On A Dream

Take action now, and don’t wait for everything to be “normal” before realizing your goals. Rather, focus on the aspirations you can bring to fruition right now — even if they are tiny ones, the sensation of seeing your dreams come true is one of the most rewarding human experiences.

In 2022, make sure to give yourself the opportunity to have that experience by letting yourself dream and then deciding which of those dreams you’re going to bring to life first (because if there is one thing we’ve learned over the past two years, it’s that focusing on the little things makes all the difference).

While the past two years have been difficult, don’t let that stop you from allowing yourself to dream and establish plans for 2022 that will fill it with the activities and experiences that bring you life. It’s more important than ever to take care of ourselves.
